Students are exploring angles, using wikki stix, cardstock & brads, geoboards, etc. Students added their own 'angle' to the activity, turning wikki stix into moustaches!
Students created a picture and statement on a hope or dream; then, each week they have time to research and take steps towards achieving that hope or dream. Actions have included: students emailing professionals (including a nurse and an F.B.I. agent) to ask what their work is like; students writing snail-mail letters to ask advice of professionals (including author J.K. Rowling); and students conducting research and note-taking on how others have achieved similar goals. Each time a student takes action towards their goal, they may write their action on a paper chain and loop it around the base of their hope/dream picture. Directly above: student's hope is to become a millionaire; he chose to
research the life of Bill Gates. Students worked on building furniture with newspapers to create products for our school's PTO auction.
Students brought their own legos to work on combinations and tree diagrams in statistics. Book groups are enjoying the realistic fiction genre with Andrew Clements' books; a group of students worked to create their own class newspaper, perhaps inspired by his stories? T-shirts arrived!
